On July 20, 2026, Iceland's Official Gazette published a planning amendment for the harbor area south of Glerá in Akureyri. The Akureyri Municipality Council approved the amendment on April 21, 2026, which modifies the detailed plan for the harbor district located south of Glerá. The amendment concerns a property at Laufásgötu 4 and establishes a new building plot on the site designated for sanitary facilities. The detailed plan amendment was processed in accordance with Article 41 of the Planning Act No. 123/2010 and became effective upon publication. Steinunn Karlsdóttir, planning project manager for Akureyri Municipality, signed the amendment on July 6, 2026. The amendment is now in effect and applies to all relevant parties undertaking development or construction activities in the specified harbor area.
