Bill Implementing Revised Consumer Credit Directive and Others Submitted to Greek Parliament

A bill on “Strengthening consumer protection in the areas of credit agreements, financial services and distance, off-premises and electronic contracts” has been submitted to the Greek parliament. The bill aims to transpose various EU directives on consumer protection, including Directive (EU) 2023/2225 on credit agreements for consumers and Directive (EU) 2023/2673 as regards financial services contracts concluded at a distance. The purpose of the bill is to strengthen consumer protection in the areas of credit agreements, financial services and distance contracts by establishing rules on transparency, responsible credit provision and fair commercial practices, particularly in the digital environment. The law, among other things, will update the legislative framework for credit agreements concluded with consumers that take the form of a loan, an agreement for repayment of a debt at a later date or any other similar financial facility. The law will also enhance the protection of consumers who conclude distance or off-premises contracts or use online interfaces for goods, services and financial services.
