On June 9, 2025, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) issued Announcement No. 26/2569 declaring special business closure dates for financial institutions and specialised financial institutions in Bangkok. The announcement responds to Thailand's hosting of the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) scheduled for October 12–18, 2025. The Cabinet approved special measures on May 19, 2025, to facilitate safe travel for government ministers and central bank governors attending the conference. Friday, October 16, 2025, is designated as a special public holiday in Bangkok for all financial institutions and specialised financial institutions operating under the Financial Institution Business Act. The BOT requests financial institutions and specialised financial institutions to implement work-from-home arrangements for non-customer-facing units in Bangkok on three additional dates: Monday, October 12, 2025; Wednesday, October 14, 2025; and Thursday, October 15, 2025. These measures aim to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure maximum security and convenience for conference participants. Financial institutions and specialised financial institutions may continue operations on October 16 if essential services are required or if closure would cause damage to public services. The BOT requests that all affected institutions communicate the special closure and work-from-home arrangements to customers in advance and implement appropriate measures to mitigate service impacts. The announcement applies to all financial institutions and specialised financial institutions regulated under Thai financial services law and takes effect from June 9, 2025.
