1574 charsBelarus Ministry of Communications and Informatization Announces Twenty to Twenty-Five New Artificial Intelligence Standards by Year End
On May 27, 2026, Belarus's State Standard (Госстандарт) announced it will develop between 20 and 25 new artificial intelligence (AI) standards by the end of 2026. Aleksandr Burak, first deputy chairman of the State Standard, said the development process incorporates international experience and practices from Russian colleagues.
The State Standard is developing these standards to support critical sectors including healthcare, education, energy, transport, agriculture, and tourism. Burak said standardization is necessary for the rapid implementation of AI solutions across these industries. Belarus is actively participating in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committee on AI, which includes more than 80 countries. Currently, 42 ISO standards are ready for implementation, with 49 international standards under development and approximately 100 normative technical documents expected by 2030.
Belarus has designated OAO Giprosvyaz as its full observer representative to the ISO technical committee. At the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) level, Belarus participates in the Interstate Technical Committee 566 on Artificial Intelligence, where work has already standardized AI terminology and definitions. The State Standard is developing quality assessment standards for AI systems and lifecycle process standards based on international documents. The national technical committee for standardization, Technical Committee BY 41 on Digital Development and Communications, is also contributing to this standardization effort.
