On May 13, 2026, Australia's Department of Home Affairs brought into force the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Transitional Amendment (Reporting Obligations) Rules 2026. The rules, authorised by the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Amendment Act 2024, establish transitional provisions governing reporting obligations under Australia's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) regime.
The transitional amendment rules address reporting requirements during the implementation period following the 2024 amendment act. These rules apply to reporting entities subject to Australia's AML/CTF obligations, including financial institutions, designated non-financial businesses and professions, and other regulated entities. The rules establish interim arrangements to ensure continuity and compliance during the transition to updated AML/CTF requirements.
The legislative instrument came into effect on May 13, 2026, and is now in force. Reporting entities should review the transitional provisions to understand any modified or interim reporting obligations that apply during the transition period. The Department of Home Affairs administers these rules, and entities should refer to the explanatory statement accompanying the rules for detailed guidance on implementation requirements and compliance expectations.
