1759 charsSlovakia's National Council Publishes Annual Personal Data Protection Report for 2025
On May 6, 2026, the National Council of the Slovak Republic (Národná rada Slovenskej republiky) submitted Parliamentary Paper 1318 to parliament. The submission comprises a report on the state of personal data protection for the year 2025, accompanied by a draft resolution for parliamentary consideration.
The report documents the National Council's compliance and activities relating to personal data protection throughout 2025. As a legislative body handling personal information in its parliamentary operations, the National Council is required to assess and report on its data protection practices annually. This report fulfils that obligation and provides transparency on how the institution manages personal data in accordance with applicable Slovak and European Union data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The submission includes supporting documentation: an introductory cover page, the full report on personal data protection status, a draft resolution for parliamentary approval, and a submission memorandum. These documents are available for review by members of parliament and the public through the National Council's parliamentary documentation system.
The report will now proceed through the National Council's standard legislative review process, where it may be debated and voted upon by members of parliament. The draft resolution accompanying the report will determine whether parliament formally acknowledges and approves the findings and recommendations contained within the personal data protection assessment for 2025.

1652 charsSlovakia's National Council Publishes Annual Personal Data Protection Report for 2025
On May 6, 2026, the National Council of Slovakia published the Report on the State of Personal Data Protection 2025, which sets out the upcoming reforms of personal data protection in Slovakia.
In 2025, there were two draft laws aimed at reforming Slovakia's personal data protection framework:
Draft Act on the Protection of Natural Persons With Regard to the Processing of Personal Data and on Amendments to Certain Acts.
A draft law on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data by competent authorities for the purposes of the prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offences or the execution of criminal penalties, and on the free movement of such data.
The reform responds to shortcomings in the previous legislation, which created a complex dual-track system by unnecessarily duplicating directly applicable provisions of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) within national law.
Under the proposed reform, Slovakia would replace the existing framework with two distinct laws. The first would contain only the national provisions necessary to implement the GDPR in Slovakia, including rules relating to the Office for Personal Data Protection, procedural matters and specific national derogations. The second would separately regulate personal data processing in the law enforcement sector and transpose Directive (EU) 2016/680.
The reform aims to improve legal certainty, simplify and clarify the personal data protection framework and streamline supervisory and enforcement procedures by providing a clearer basis for inspections and administrative proceedings.
