On May 5, 2025, the Bank of Thailand (BoT) launched a public consultation on a draft announcement regarding the reporting of unusual transaction data and behaviour by financial institutions to the BoT. The consultation period runs for 32 days, closing on June 5, 2025.
The draft announcement establishes requirements for commercial banks, specialised financial institutions, and non-bank electronic payment service providers to report suspicious or unusual transactions and customer behaviour to the BoT. The framework aims to standardise data infrastructure and information management practices across the financial sector. By implementing consistent reporting standards, the BoT seeks to enhance its supervisory oversight of financial institutions and electronic payment service providers, ensuring they operate appropriately while maintaining financial system stability. The initiative also prioritises consumer protection by enabling the BoT to identify and address risks more effectively, whilst promoting fair access to financial services.
The consultation supports the BoT's broader risk management framework, which addresses both customer-related financial service risks and cash-related transaction risks across regulated entities. This standardisation effort will strengthen the BoT's ability to monitor systemic risks and protect the integrity of Thailand's financial infrastructure.
Stakeholders can submit comments and feedback through the BoT's website during the consultation period. The BoT will treat all submissions confidentially and use them solely for the purpose of developing the final announcement. For further information, interested parties can contact the Financial Institution Data Team at FIDataTeam@bot.or.th.
