2068 charsIndia's Financial Intelligence Unit and Cyber Crime Coordination Centre Sign Memorandum of Understanding
On April 9, 2026, India's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-India) and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance information sharing and coordination in combating cyber fraud and financial crimes.
The MOU was signed by Amit Mohan Govil, director of FIU-India, and Rajesh Kumar, chief executive officer of I4C. This collaboration marks a significant step in India's efforts to strengthen its response to cyber fraud and financial crimes at a time when the country's digital payment ecosystem has undergone substantial transformation, necessitating enhanced security measures to protect citizens.
Under the MOU, both agencies will develop operational intelligence and provide investigative support to law enforcement agencies in preventing financial crimes, securing digital transactions, and recovering assets. The agreement enables the agencies to establish responsive mechanisms to enhance fraud detection protocols at the national level. It also facilitates the development and dissemination of guidance and warning indicators to financial institutions to strengthen cyber fraud prevention efforts.
FIU-India is a central national agency responsible for receiving, processing, analysing, and disseminating information related to suspicious financial transactions, and coordinating efforts against money laundering and terrorism financing. I4C, an affiliated office of the Ministry of Home Affairs, provides a framework and ecosystem for law enforcement agencies to address cyber crimes in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. I4C has developed various platforms including the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, Cyber Police, and Suspect Registry to facilitate real-time intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies, banks, and financial institutions.
