TITLE: United Kingdom Advertising Standards Authority Upholds Ruling Against BoyleSports Gambling Advertisement BODY: On July 29, 2026, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a ruling against BoyleSports (Gibraltar) Ltd t/a BoyleSports regarding a paid-for online display advertisement for a sports betting promotion. The ad, which appeared on the Racing Post website on March 3, 2026, featured text promoting "BANK BUILDER JACKPOT" and "UP TO £60 IN FREE BETS SHARE OF £10K EVERY WEEK." The ASA determined that the promotion encouraged socially irresponsible gambling behaviour and could lead to financial harm. The promotion required customers to place and settle eligible bets of at least £10 per day on four to seven days within promotional weeks running from February 9 to March 8, 2026. While BoyleSports argued that participation was voluntary and lower-tier rewards were available, the ASA found that the mechanics encouraged frequent and repetitive participation. Customers betting on five or six days weekly would necessarily bet on consecutive days, and those pursuing the maximum benefit required betting every day for 28 days, costing at least £280. The ASA also noted that free bets credited after the promotion ended required use within five days, further encouraging immediate subsequent gambling participation. BoyleSports submitted customer data indicating that only approximately 2.5 percent of qualifying customers reached the seven-day tier and that average betting activity had not increased significantly during the promotion. However, the ASA concluded this evidence was insufficient to demonstrate the ad avoided encouraging frequent or repetitive participation. The ASA ruled that the advertisement breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 16.3 and 16.3.1 concerning gambling marketing communications. BoyleSports must ensure future advertisements do not encourage gambling behaviour that is socially irresponsible or could lead to financial harm, particularly by avoiding encouragement of frequent and repetitive participation.
