Can Fin Homes Limited is a housing finance company, not a payment institution, bank, or e-money institution; the enforcement action concerns Fair Practices Code compliance in loan disclosure, which falls outside the payments regulatory scope.
While the penalty involves consumer lending transparency, the entity is a housing finance company and the violation concerns loan disclosure practices rather than payment services regulation.
Specialism
While a monetary penalty is imposed, Can Fin Homes Limited is a housing finance company, not a payment service provider or payment institution, placing this outside the core payments compliance scope; requires human review for applicability.

TITLE: India's Reserve Bank Imposes Monetary Penalty on Can Fin Homes Limited for Fair Practices Code Non-Compliance
BODY:
On June 19, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced it had imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2.70 lakh on Can Fin Homes Limited for non-compliance with RBI directions on the Fair Practices Code. The RBI issued the penalty order on June 18, 2026, exercising powers conferred under Section 52A of the National Housing Bank Act, 1987.
The National Housing Bank conducted a statutory inspection of Can Fin Homes Limited with reference to its financial position as of March 31, 2025. Following supervisory findings of non-compliance with RBI directions, the RBI issued a notice requiring the company to show cause why a penalty should not be imposed. After considering the company's response and oral submissions during a personal hearing, the RBI sustained one charge against Can Fin Homes Limited: the company failed to clearly indicate the bifurcation between interest and principal in loan instalments collected from borrowers. This deficiency in regulatory compliance violated the Fair Practices Code requirements, which mandate transparency in loan repayment structures for consumer protection. The penalty reflects the RBI's commitment to ensuring housing finance companies maintain proper disclosure practices and comply with consumer protection standards. The RBI clarified that this action addresses deficiencies in regulatory compliance and does not pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the company with its customers. The RBI reserved the right to initiate further action against Can Fin Homes Limited if warranted.
