TITLE: Czech National Bank Alerts to End of Crypto-Assets Transition Period on July 1, 2026 BODY: On June 15, 2026, the Czech National Bank (CNB) issued a notice warning that the transition period for providing crypto-asset services under the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) will end on July 1, 2026. After this date, only entities holding a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) authorisation from the CNB or the competent authority of another EU member state may provide crypto-asset services in the EU. Banks, securities traders, and other financial institutions may continue offering these services if they properly notify the CNB or another supervisory authority. The CNB emphasised that most entities previously providing crypto-asset services cannot continue operating under the transition regime because they failed to meet the eligibility conditions. Providing crypto-asset services without CASP authorisation or notification after July 1, 2026 constitutes a breach of MiCA and exposes providers to administrative penalties and corrective measures, including fines exceeding 100 million Czech koruna. Providers currently operating under the transition regime must cease activities by July 1, 2026 if they lack the required authorisation. They must transfer customer crypto-assets and funds to authorised service providers or customer-controlled self-hosted wallets, ensure proper settlement of customer funds, and continue fulfilling anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing obligations until operations end. The CNB recommends providers implement a wind-down plan and notify customers in advance. Consumers and investors should verify provider authorisation through the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) register and the CNB's list before using services. The CNB recommends consumers confirm they are dealing with an authorised EU-based entity, as customer protections apply only to such entities. Individuals suspecting unauthorised crypto-asset service provision after July 1, 2026 may submit reports to the CNB.
