This update concerns AI transparency and content labelling under the EU AI Act, which has no connection to payment services, financial transactions, or payments regulation.
While payment processors may eventually use AI systems, this update addresses general AI transparency obligations unrelated to payment processing, acquiring, or any payments-specific function.
Specialism
This update concerns AI transparency and content labelling under the EU AI Act, which falls outside the payments compliance taxonomy and has no direct relevance to payment service providers, payment systems, or payment-specific regulatory obligations.
While the Code addresses transparency in AI-generated content presentation, it is not specific to financial services advertising or payment firm marketing practices, making this a poor secondary fit.

TITLE: European Commission Publishes Code of Practice on Marking and Labelling AI-Generated Content
BODY:
On June 10, 2026, the European Commission published the final Code of Practice on marking and labelling of AI-generated content. The Code is voluntary and provides practical steps to help providers and deployers of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems meet transparency obligations under the AI Act, which will apply from August 2, 2026.
From August 2, 2026, the AI Act will require clear labelling in specific cases. Deepfakes and AI-generated or AI-manipulated text published on matters of public interest must be clearly labelled. Additionally, users must be informed when they are interacting with interactive AI systems, such as chatbots. These transparency requirements aim to help people recognise when content has been generated or altered by AI, reducing the risk of deception and manipulation. The Code of Practice establishes a framework for compliance with these mandatory transparency obligations, offering guidance on implementation across different use cases and platforms.
Providers and deployers of generative AI systems should review the Code of Practice and consider signing it to demonstrate commitment to transparency standards. The European Commission has published accompanying resources, including EU icons for labelling AI-generated content and guidance on the signature process. The Code represents a collaborative approach to ensuring AI transparency ahead of the AI Act's enforcement date, supporting industry compliance while protecting users from potential harms associated with AI-generated or manipulated content.
