TITLE: Ohio Department of Commerce Revokes Mortgage Lender Registration for JMJ Mortgage, LLC
BODY:
On March 24, 2026, the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Financial Institutions, revoked the Ohio Residential Mortgage Lending Act (ORMLA) registration of JMJ Mortgage, LLC, a Cincinnati-based mortgage lender holding registration number RM.805291.000 and Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) ID 2604206.
The Division initiated enforcement action after determining that JMJ violated multiple statutory requirements under ORMLA. The company failed to designate a qualified operations manager following the disqualification of its original manager, John Christopher Janis, whose Ohio mortgage loan originator license expired on December 31, 2024, without renewal. JMJ made no effort to appoint a replacement qualified individual, rendering the company non-compliant as of January 11, 2025. Additionally, JMJ failed to file mandatory quarterly Mortgage Call Reports with the NMLS, specifically the fourth quarter 2024 report due February 14, 2025. The Division also found that JMJ failed to cooperate with the agency's investigation, constituting obstructive conduct.
A formal administrative hearing was conducted on November 21, 2025, following the Division's issuance of a Notice of Intent to Suspend or Revoke Registration on June 13, 2025. The Division perfected service through multiple methods, including certified mail, FedEx, and publication in the Cincinnati Court Index, after initial delivery attempts failed. JMJ did not request a hearing or file objections to the Hearing Examiner's Report and Recommendation issued December 1, 2025.
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 1322.50(A)(1)(a), JMJ may appeal this Division Order within 15 days by filing a Notice of Appeal with both the Division and the appropriate Court of Common Pleas.
