TITLE: Denmark's Financial Supervisory Authority Issues Enforcement Actions Against Bambora Denmark Following Anti-Money Laundering Inspection
BODY:
On May 13, 2026, Denmark's Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) published an inspection report following an anti-money laundering inspection of Bambora Denmark, a branch of Swedish payment institution Bambora AB, conducted on December 10, 2025.
Bambora Denmark, registered as a payment institution branch since October 28, 2021, provides card acquiring services for Visa and Mastercard payment schemes, including payment terminal solutions for physical retailers and e-commerce platforms. Its customer base comprises small and medium-sized enterprises.
The inspection identified multiple compliance deficiencies, resulting in six enforcement orders. The authority found that Bambora Denmark failed to adequately assess the purpose and intended nature of business relationships, including the origin of funds, creating risk of money laundering and terrorism financing. The branch was ordered to establish more precise transaction intervals and implement enhanced customer due diligence for high-risk customers.
The inspection also revealed insufficient incorporation of industry and risk factors in customer risk assessments, inadequate monitoring of established business relationships, and failure to investigate suspicious transactions thoroughly or document investigation results. The authority ordered the branch to enhance its monitoring system to include specific information on expected customer transactions, ensure coverage of all identified risks including cash transactions and high-risk jurisdictions, and properly document all investigations.
Additionally, Finanstilsynet found that Bambora Denmark provided inaccurate reporting to the authority and failed to update customer information appropriately. The branch was ordered to correct all reported information from 2023 through the third quarter of 2025 and ensure accurate future reporting.
All enforcement orders reference relevant provisions of Danish anti-money laundering legislation.
