TITLE: Norway's Government Proposes Amendments to Gambling Regulations on Domain Name System Blocking and Local Broadcasting BODY: On May 11, 2026, Norway's Ministry of Culture and Equality (Kultur- og likestillingsdepartementet) launched a consultation on proposed amendments to the gambling regulations (pengespillforskriften). Second, the consultation proposes expanding the exemption provision in Section 36 of the gambling regulations to permit local broadcasters to offer small-scale gambling without requiring specific authorisation. This expansion is intended to support the economic sustainability of local broadcasters, preserve media diversity, and maintain local media presence, while operating within a responsible regulatory framework. The Ministry of Culture and Equality proposes that the amended rules take effect on August 1, 2026. The consultation period runs until June 22, 2026, and responses can be submitted during this timeframe.
