TITLE: United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority Launches Strategic Review of 33 Markets Remedies

On January 19, 2026, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched a strategic review of 33 market remedies to assess whether they should be removed or amended. These remedies comprise undertakings and orders that were established following market investigations under the Fair Trading Act 1973 and the Enterprise Act 2002.
The strategic review will evaluate whether, due to any change in circumstances, each remedy remains appropriate or requires modification or removal. The remedies under review span multiple sectors, including agriculture, environment and natural resources, building and construction, distribution and service industries, energy, financial services, food manufacturing, healthcare and medical equipment, motor industry, pharmaceuticals, recreation and leisure, retail and wholesale, telecommunications, and transport.
The CMA consulted on these changes with responses due by March 2, 2026. On March 2, 2026, the CMA appointed review group members to oversee the process. For undertakings and orders made pursuant to the Fair Trading Act 1973, the group comprises Kirstin Baker, Frances McLeman, and Jo Armstrong. For undertakings and orders made pursuant to the Enterprise Act 2002, the group comprises Kirstin Baker, Frances McLeman, Jo Armstrong, and Juliette Enser.
A provisional decision is scheduled for June 2026, with a final decision expected in August 2026. The CMA will publish any revisions to this timetable on its dedicated case page.
