TITLE: Paraguay's Central Bank Launches New Identity for National Payments System BODY: On April 27, 2026, the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) presented a new brand identity for the Sistema de Pagos del Paraguay (SIPAP), rebranding it as SIP. This rebrand marks a modernisation milestone for the country's payments infrastructure, positioning the system as a more agile, interoperable, secure and user-centric platform aligned with digital economy demands. Since its launch on November 23, 2013, SIPAP has evolved into a cornerstone of Paraguay's financial system. A significant development occurred in 2023 with the introduction of the Sistema de Pagos Instantáneos (SPI), which has achieved substantial adoption. As of November 2025, the SPI processed 3,804,105 accounts and represented 97.2 percent of total SIPAP operations. In March 2026, the BCP increased the maximum transaction limit to ₲10,000,000, enabling 24-hour, seven-day instant transfers at this amount. The new SIP brand consolidates this evolution and supports the BCP's vision of integrating all Paraguayans into a secure, agile and accessible payments system that improves quality of life and promotes financial inclusion. The rebrand accompanies several technological advancements. The QR Hub, a centralised platform within the SPI designed to standardise and interconnect QR code payments nationwide, is scheduled for production launch in May 2026. This enables users to scan QR codes from any financial entity or digital wallet, facilitating secure, instant and interoperable transactions via mobile devices. Additionally, the CDA-d (certificado de depósito de ahorro en formato digital), a digital savings deposit certificate, is planned for production launch in August 2026, expanding available financial instruments within the electronic payments ecosystem. Medium-term projections include contactless payments and cross-border transfers to strengthen regional integration.
