TITLE: European Union's Anti-Money Laundering Authority Develops Risk Assessment Methodology for Non-Financial Sector BODY: On 15 April 2026, the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA) announced it is developing a common methodology that all EU non-financial sector anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT) supervisors will use to assess money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) risks across their sectors. The methodology aims to help national supervisors direct resources toward the highest-risk areas and inform decisions on the frequency and intensity of on-site and off-site inspections. This standardised approach will ensure that ML/TF risks facing every sector and entity are properly managed and overseen across the EU. Given the structural diversity of the non-financial sector—spanning a wide range of entity sizes, risk profiles, business models, and data capacities—AMLA recognises that early input from European-level associations is essential to developing an effective framework. To gather stakeholder input before formalising the methodology, AMLA is hosting an online roundtable on Monday, 4 May 2026, from 11:00 to 13:00 CET via Webex. Invitations have been extended to EU-level trade associations and representative bodies covering obliged entities in the non-financial sector operating across multiple Member States, as defined under Article 3(3) of the Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR). Places are limited to ensure balanced representation across sectors. Organisations that believe they qualify but have not received an invitation should contact AMLA at riskmodels-nfs[at]amla[dot]europa[dot]eu by 29 April 2026. This roundtable represents a direct opportunity for stakeholders to shape AMLA's regulatory and policy development before decisions are finalised, enabling real-time dialogue and peer engagement ahead of the formal consultation on the draft methodology.
