This update concerns general data protection procedural guidance (DPIA templates) with no specific connection to payments services, products, or payment institutions.
While third-party payment processors must comply with data protection rules, this update is a generic EDPB consultation on DPIA templates applicable across all sectors, not specific to payments.
Specialism
The EDPB's DPIA template standardizes data protection impact assessments across the EU, which directly relates to how organizations handle personal data of payment service users under GDPR frameworks.
Low confidence — requires human review. While the consultation involves data governance principles, the primary focus is on personal data protection compliance rather than internal data handling or record-keeping.

TITLE: European Data Protection Board Launches Public Consultation on Data Protection Impact Assessment Template
BODY:
On 14 April 2026, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) launched a public consultation on its Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) template. The consultation will run until 9 June 2026.
The EDPB DPIA template is designed to provide a standardised approach to conducting data protection impact assessments across the European Union. Following the conclusion of the public consultation, the template will be finalised, subject to any appropriate modifications. Once finalised, all data protection authorities will begin the necessary steps to adopt this template either as their unique template or as a "meta-template" with which national-specific templates will be compatible. In the interim, organisations are encouraged to use the template and provide feedback during the consultation period.
The EDPB welcomes comments on the template, which should be submitted by 9 June 2026 using the provided feedback form. The EDPB notes that all comments submitted will be published on its website following screening by the EDPB Secretariat staff to block unauthorised submissions such as spam. Submissions may be subject to access requests under Regulation 1049/2001 on public access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents, which will be assessed against the conditions set out in the Regulation and in accordance with applicable data protection rules.
Organisations seeking to provide feedback on the EDPB DPIA template should submit their comments via the consultation portal by 9 June 2026. The template and an accompanying explainer document are available for download on the EDPB website.
