TITLE: European Banking Authority Consults on Major Simplification of Supervisory Reporting Framework BODY: On 10 April 2026, the European Banking Authority (EBA) launched a public consultation on revised Implementing Technical Standards (ITS) on supervisory reporting and supervisory benchmarking reporting. The consultation aims to significantly simplify EU supervisory reporting requirements while maintaining the quality and relevance of information supervisors need to fulfil their responsibilities. The EBA proposes to reduce the number of data points across EU harmonised reporting by approximately 50 percent, despite adding new reporting requirements related to International Financial Reporting Standard 18 (IFRS 18), environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, and the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB). The proposals strengthen proportionality for small and non-complex institutions (SNCIs) through a "core plus supplement" approach. The EBA will integrate separate EU-wide stress test and supervisory benchmarking data collections into regular reporting to reduce overlaps, increase consistency, and simplify reporting processes. The EBA will also develop an EU-wide public repository of European and national supervisory data requests and issue guidance on data-request best practices. These measures align with the EBA's work towards integrated prudential and statistical reporting supported by a common data dictionary as part of the Joint Bank Reporting Committee (JBRC) initiative, utilising modern data modelling solutions including Data Point Model (DPM) 2.0 standards. The consultation period closes on 10 July 2026, except for IFRS 18-related changes in FINREP, which closes on 10 May 2026. The EBA will hold public hearings on 5 May 2026 and 24 June 2026, and a workshop on efficient reporting on 4 June 2026. The proposed changes would apply from September 2027.
