TITLE: Argentina's Financial Intelligence Unit Regulates Information Exchange on Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing
BODY:
On March 30, 2026, Argentina's Financial Intelligence Unit (Unidad de Información Financiera, UIF) issued Resolution 35/2026, establishing protocols for information exchange on anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and proliferation financing (PLA/FT/FP) among domestic regulatory authorities and with foreign counterparts.
The resolution applies to four specific regulatory bodies: the Central Bank of Argentina (Banco Central de la República Argentina), the National Securities Commission (Comisión Nacional de Valores), the National Insurance Superintendency (Superintendencia de Seguros de la Nación), and the National Institute of Associativism and Social Economy (Instituto Nacional de Asociativismo y Economía Social). These organisations, designated as specific control bodies, are required to exchange information directly with each other and with similar foreign regulatory organisations to identify suspicious operations related to money laundering, terrorism financing, and weapons proliferation financing.
The resolution establishes that information requests between control bodies must specify the request's purpose, detail the information sought with precision, and indicate urgency levels. All exchanges must occur through secure electronic document management systems. Critically, all exchanged information remains subject to confidentiality requirements under Law 25.246 and Law 27.260, with strict prohibitions on disclosure to third parties without prior written authorisation from the originating organisation. The UIF retains authority to request updated information on exchanges conducted between control bodies and foreign counterparts, and may request statistical information aligned with national and regional interests.
The resolution repeals UIF Resolution 233/2025 and entered into force upon publication in the Official Gazette on March 31, 2026.
