TITLE: Ontario Securities Commission Seeks Feedback on Machine-Readable Regulatory Framework BODY: On March 30, 2026, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announced it is seeking stakeholder feedback on the development of a machine-readable dataset of securities rules and regulatory documents to improve access, clarity and usability for capital market participants. The OSC is exploring how machine-readable regulation could reduce compliance burden by translating rules into clear, consistent data that firms can integrate into their systems. The initiative aims to lower compliance costs, accelerate compliance timelines, and allow market participants to redirect resources toward investor service and capital markets enhancement. In 2025, the OSC collected preliminary stakeholder input with support from RegGenome, a regulatory data technology company. This early work examined the feasibility of using machine-assisted annotation by OSC experts to label and categorise segments of relevant statutes, regulations, rules and policies. These annotations would enhance searchability, highlight linkages across documents, and improve the ability of humans and computers to understand and analyse the regulatory framework, potentially making compliance faster and more accurate. The OSC has published an overview on its website describing the potential impacts of machine-readable regulations for Ontario capital market participants. The Commission's 2026–2027 Statement of Priorities includes a commitment to develop a proof of concept for a machine-readable version of Ontario's securities regulation, with stakeholder input to guide the next stage of development. The OSC is requesting comments on the next steps to best support investors, industry, and regulatory technology innovators with this dataset. The comment period closes on June 30, 2026. Feedback can be submitted via the OSC's website.
