TITLE: Slovenia's Financial Administration Announces Payment Service Suspension on Easter Friday
BODY:
On March 30, 2026, Slovenia's Financial Administration (Finančna uprava Republike Slovenije) announced that payment services will be suspended on Friday, April 3, 2026, due to the closure of the European TARGET2 payment system during the Easter holiday period.
Banks and savings banks across the eurozone will not process interbank payments on this date. Consequently, the Administration for Public Payments (Uprava Republike Slovenije za javna plačila, or UJP) will not execute SEPA domestic, cross-border, or foreign payments for budget users on April 3, 2026. However, instant payments will continue to operate uninterrupted throughout the Easter holidays on a 24/7/365 basis.
The announcement clarifies important implications for payment deadlines. Obligations falling due on Friday, April 3, 2026, must be settled by April 2, 2026, to be considered paid on time. The deadline does not automatically extend to the following working day. The sole exception applies to instant payments, which will be considered timely if executed on April 3, 2026, itself.
Budget users and other entities relying on payment services should plan accordingly to ensure obligations are met before the Easter suspension. Further details regarding payment service operations during the Easter holiday period are available on the UJP website.
