TITLE: Netherlands Gambling Authority Addresses Online Gaming Operator Over Sports Sponsorship Advertising Violation
BODY:
On an unspecified date, the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Netherlands gambling regulator, addressed JOI Gaming Limited, operating in the Netherlands as JACKS.NL, for breaching the prohibition on undirected advertising for online gambling.
The KSA identified that the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) website displayed the logo of Jack's Casino's physical locations with a hyperlink directing to JACKS.NL, which offers online gambling services. While advertising for land-based gambling is permitted under certain conditions, the hyperlink created undirected advertising for online gambling services, constituting a violation.
Since July 1, 2025, online gambling operators have been prohibited from sports sponsorship activities. This prohibition forms part of the broader ban on undirected advertising for remote gambling services. The regulatory framework aims to protect vulnerable groups, including young adults and individuals exhibiting risky gambling behaviour, from exposure to gambling advertising.
The KSA received a report regarding the PDC website displaying Jack's Casino's logo with a link to JACKS.NL. While displaying the logo itself does not constitute a violation, the hyperlink to the website offering online gambling services does, as it constitutes advertising for online gambling on a public platform.
Following the KSA's intervention, JACKS.NL immediately removed the hyperlink to its online gambling offering. The KSA emphasised that licence holders are responsible for compliance with gambling advertising legislation and regulations. The regulator continues to monitor operator compliance and implements appropriate interventions to ensure a fair and safe gambling market.
