TITLE: United Kingdom Environment Agency Launches Flood Advice Websites for West Country Residents
BODY:
On March 3, 2026, the Environment Agency launched two new dedicated websites to support residents in Dorset, Wiltshire, and Somerset following severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall during January and February 2026.
The Dorset and Wiltshire Groundwater Incident Response 2026 website addresses groundwater flooding affecting the chalk aquifer regions, which is experiencing the worst conditions since 2014. The site consolidates Environment Agency resources explaining groundwater characteristics, safety measures, and preparedness guidance. It includes information on the special flood warning service that monitors underground water levels, providing residents with extended preparation time. The Somerset Flooding 2026 website supports recovery efforts in affected areas, providing awareness of operational activities and next steps as water levels begin to recede following conditions not seen since 2014.
Both websites function as centralised information hubs, offering advice, resources, and support links tailored to each region's specific flooding circumstances. Ian Withers, Environment Agency representative, stated that the websites will maintain community awareness and engagement as affected counties continue managing elevated water levels and flood risk. The Environment Agency deployed additional pumping capacity at key sites, including Blandford pumping station in Dorset and Northmoor pumping station in Somerset, to assist water level reduction efforts.
The websites will remain operational for as long as required before being archived, with provisions for reactivation if future flooding events occur. Both situations are expected to persist for several weeks from the publication date.
